There are plenty of reasons the Penguins have a 3-1 lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series against Washington.
A productive power play is nowhere on the list.
Not even at the very bottom.
That’s because the Penguins, who converted eight of 21 chances with the extra man in the opening round against the New York Rangers, are 0 for 14 against the Capitals.
This is just the second time in franchise history they have failed to score a power-play goal in the first four games of a series.
It also happened in 2013 during the Eastern Conference final against Boston, when the Bruins swept them.
