BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Playing in a half-empty building, against a team that had just one win in its last 10 contests, the Penguins’ game against the Islanders Tuesday night certainly didn’t have a playoff feel to it.
And the Penguins delivered a far-less-than-playoff-caliber performance.
They lost to the Islanders, 4-1, giving up two points in an airtight Metropolitan Division race.
The Penguins fell behind early and, other than a brief blip of momentum late in the second period, never seriously threatened a comeback.
Christopher Gibson stopped 36 shots in net for the Islanders, his second 35-save performance against the Penguins this season, with the first coming in a 3-2 overtime loss earlier this month.
