CHICAGO — Penguins center Eric Fehr has cleared waivers and can be sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
The move will give the Penguins financial flexibility to the tune of $950,000. They could have saved $2 million if another NHL team had claimed Fehr.
The 31-year-old Fehr has six goals and 11 points in 51 games this season but, on three separate occasions, has found himself as a healthy scratch.
Also Wednesday, the Penguins recalled defenseman Derrick Pouliot from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The NHL trade deadline is at 3 p.m.
Look for the Penguins to potentially acquire a depth defenseman now that they have a clearer financial situation.
