Penguins bring back Casey DeSmith from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The Penguins recalled goalie Casey DeSmith from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday, as the team prepares to come off its “bye week” with a game Saturday afternoon against Detroit.

The reason for the call-up is unclear for now, as both Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry appeared to be healthy when the team departed for its bye week following Sunday’s game against Boston. The Penguins are scheduled to practice at 4 p.m. Friday at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry.

DeSmith has gone back and forth between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre for much of the year, as the Penguins have dealt with injuries and some inconsistent play from their NHL netminders.
