NEWARK, N.J. — In their loss to Detroit earlier this week, Kris Letang said the Penguins lacked the hunger and urgency necessary at this time of the year.
That certainly wasn’t the case against the Devils Thursday. The result was different, too.
The Penguins beat the Devils, 4-3, in overtime, earning two vital points in an airtight Metropolitan Division playoff race.
The win allowed the Penguins to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Devils, who had won the first three meetings between the teams.
Sidney Crosby scored the game-winner on his own rebound out of midair 19 seconds into overtime, giving the Penguins their NHL-best 11th 3-on-3 victory.
