The Penguins never doubted their run of overtime losses in the playoffs was going to end eventually.
They just didn’t know it would happen at such an opportune time.
But Patric Hornqvist beat Washington goalie Braden Holtby from inside the right circle at 2:34 of overtime to give the Penguins a 3-2 victory at Consol Energy Center Wednesday night in Game 4 of their second-round series.
That snapped their streak of eight consecutive losses in playoff games that extended beyond the third period, and gave them a 3-1 lead in the series.
The Penguins need one more victory to clinch a spot in the Eastern Conference final opposite the winner of the Tampa Bay-New York Islanders series.
