The Penguins, who began the day with 49 players on their training-camp roster, are expected to have a lot fewer than that around by the close of business this evening.
They already have placed five players -- defensemen Steve Oleksy, Reid McNeill and Will O'Neill and forwards Dominik Uher and Kael Mouillierat – on waivers.
All are expected to be assigned to the Penguins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre if they go unclaimed by noon tomorrow.
Two players still in camp, defenseman Sergei Gonchar and forward Tom Sestito, are on professional tryouts and are attempting to earn contracts.
