The Penguins already have four preseason games under their belt, the most recent a 4-1 loss to St. Louis at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Sunday night.
They still have three more to go — starting Monday in Detroit — before the attention totally turns to the regular-season opener against St. Louis Oct. 4.
Especially for a team coming off a short summer, a full seven preseason games (the Penguins have an extra one thanks to Belle Vernon winning the NHL’s Kraft Hockeyville USA competition) might seem like a bit much leading into the 82-game grind that is the NHL regular season.
