There is a chance the Penguins will send Daniel Sprong back to his junior team, Charlottetown of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, sometime in the near future.
That would be perfectly logical, on several levels.
It also would be a mistake.
It’s true that few 18-year-olds — including the ones capable of stepping directly into the NHL — would suffer from spending more time in junior hockey.
For while a player could pick up some bad habits there, he also would have an opportunity to get a confidence boost from having a productive season while filling a big-minutes role.
