On The Penguins: Daley hopes to be role model for younger, black hockey players

Trevor Daley’s skating, skills and instincts are the primary reasons he has stood out on the Penguins’ blue line since they acquired him Dec 14 from Chicago.

The finer points of his game, however, aren’t all that distinguish him from most players.

That’s because Daley is a man of color, something that has set him apart from the majority of his teammates since he began playing the game.

“When you are a different skin color than most of the guys you played with, you feel different,” he said recently.

Daley suggested race rarely has been an issue with his teammates — “All of the guys, for the most part, make you feel welcome,” he said.
