Official: NHL “pauses” regular season due to coronavirus

The NHL has announced today the extraordinary step of suspending play of the 2019-20 season as a result of the growing coronavirus pandemic. The announcement came this afternoon and is in-line with several other planned sporting events (NCAA conference tournaments, NBA regular season, MLB spring training, NASCAR races among other items).

The break is being classified, for now, as “temporary” as the NHL and Penguins will just have to wait and see what happens outside of their control in the coming days and weeks.

As per someone on the Board of Governors call with the NHL, the season has officially been paused.
