The Penguins, as expected, lost out Friday on free-agent defenseman Mike Reilly, who announced he will sign with Minnesota.
The Penguins, along with the Wild and Chicago, were his finalists but, as noted in the Monday editions of the Post-Gazette, they had become a long shot to get him.
Reilly, a skilled puck-mover, originally was drafted by Columbus, but declined to sign with the Blue Jackets and became an unrestricted free agent. His father is a minority owner of the Wild.
