A year ago, Matt Bartkowski wasn’t sure what the upcoming season had in store for him.
The veteran NHL defenseman was without a contract, training in the Pittsburgh area and hoping for an opportunity to earn some big-league playing time.
The Mt. Lebanon native ended up finding that fit in Calgary. As a result, he has a bit more peace of mind as this summer comes to an end.
“This is a lot better,” said Bartkowski, 28. “I started in the minors last year, just waiting for a contract, then I got one. When I got to Calgary, and the team did pretty well, so I think that helped me a lot.
