Mayor Bill Peduto urged the Pittsburgh Penguins today to get moving on the redevelopment of the former Civic Arena site or to give up the rights to the land.
In an interview with reporters, Mr. Peduto said he intends to hold the Penguins to an Oct. 21 deadline to start the first phase of a 1,200-unit residential development.
He was reacting to a report in today’s Post-Gazette in which the Penguins raised concerns about starting the development this fall because of site contamination, a $5 million financing gap, and other issues.
But Mr. Peduto said he did not think the environmental concerns were serious enough to jeopardize the start date.
