“Murray” and “Fleury” sound a lot alike when chanted together by thousands of people.
As the Penguins celebrated their 2017 Stanley Cup on Wednesday afternoon, both names echoed out from Point State Park in unison, and it sounded perfectly fitting.
Marc-Andre Fleury and Matt Murray, the two-part backstop that made the Penguins’ Stanley Cup run possible, lifted the Cup together after the team’s victory parade.
Longtime announcer Paul Steigerwald called Fleury and Murray to the front of the stage, referring to them as “the greatest goaltending tandem in the history of the Stanley Cup playoffs.”
That might not be hyperbole.
