Matt Murray being evaluated after taking Olli Maatta shot to the head

Matt Murray is being evaluated for an injury after leaving Monday’s practice early, Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said.

Murray left the ice at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex with a few minutes to go after an Olli Maatta shot hit him in the head.

Should an injury — potentially a concussion — force Murray to miss time, either Tristan Jarry or Casey DeSmith would take over, assuming general manager Jim Rutherford doesn’t trade for a goalie before the NHL trade deadline at 3 p.m. Monday.

Kessel gets maintenance day

Phil Kessel missed Monday’s session, but it was simply for a maintenance day, Sullivan said.
