It’s not easy being Matt Hunwick these days.
The 32-year-old defenseman signed a three-year, $6.75 million contract with the Penguins over the summer, with the belief that he’d become a regular part of their top-six, perhaps even the top-four.
It hasn’t worked out that way.
Hunwick has struggled to find a fit in Pittsburgh, something that has occurred for myriad reasons.
Worse, it became public on Friday that he may be on the trade block, although Hunwick said he was unaware of a tweet/report from TSN’s Darren Dreger that indicated the Penguins would like to move Hunwick to clear cap space and potentially acquire a forward.
