TAMPA, Fla. — The Penguins lost defenseman Trevor Daley to an injury in the second period that did not look insignificant.
Just 45 seconds later, Kris Letang nearly lost his mind in a tango with Lightning forward Brian Boyle that sent him to the penalty box for four minutes.
It left the Penguins without their two best defensemen for a lengthy stretch, and, not surprisingly, their night unraveled from there.
The Lightning scored on the ensuing power play, then once more to build a 4-0 lead. The Penguins mounted a wild comeback but lost, 4-3, as the Lightning evened the Eastern Conference final, 2-2.
