DALLAS — Since Jan. 1, the Penguins have been a dangerous offensive club. Their average of 3.87 goals per game since that date tied the Boston Bruins for the most in the NHL entering Friday’s games.
Evgeni Malkin led the league in goals (16) and points (26), while Sidney Crosby (25) and Phil Kessel (23) ranked second and third behind Malkin.
But facing a red-shot Dallas Stars team that had played the night before, the Penguins didn’t do enough to build on a strong start and ultimately fell, 4-3, in a shootout at American Airlines Center.
Tyler Seguin scored the only goal for either team, as Dallas won its fifth consecutive game.
