Former Penguin Jordan Staal was named captain for Carolina Hurricanes home games back in October, an unconventional move because of the idea that you can’t really split a captaincy, but a high mark for Staal’s leadership and profile nonetheless.
In taking on more responsibility — at least publicly — Staal was not shy about incorporating some lessons learned here in Pittsburgh, specifically from playing on a team with Sidney Crosby and Mark Recchi.
“I think every player learns from other players,” Staal said Tuesday following Carolina’s morning skate at PPG Paints Arena. “[Crosby] was one of them.
