No, Penguins professor laureate Ed Johnston has not seen it all.

But he has seen most of it in his 82 years.

So if you were looking to quantify Evgeni Malkin’s ridiculous first-period goal Wednesday, as far as its place in Penguins playoff annals, you could have done worse than seek E.J.’s opinion. I did, trudging down to his press-box seat after the first period.

The goal was plain silly. Malkin raced from the penalty box like he was escaping jail, called for the puck after a Carl Hagelin block near the Penguins’ blue line and took off on rocket packs.
