While chatting Thursday with ex-Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Martin Biron about that franchise’s never-ending goalie carousel, an old story came up: the famous Evgeni Malkin “angry slap shot” goal from Game 1 of the 2008 Eastern Conference final.
I’m guessing you remember. The Flyers, trailing 3-2, were on the power play early in the second period. Mike Richards flattened Malkin behind the Flyers net, right next to Biron. A shaken-up and highly irritated Malkin rose slowly. He was headed to the bench when a turnover at the other end and a Sergei Gonchar pass gave him a clear breakaway from the blue line in.
