I get it. Conor Sheary was expendable. The Penguins needed cap space. Jim Rutherford apparently will use a chunk of it to sign defenseman Jack Johnson, and we all will live happily ever after (assuming Johnson isn’t the next Christian Ehrhoff).
Such is the business of hockey. Sheary is prone to lengthy scoring droughts, and, like several of his teammates, had a forgettable playoff. Rutherford should be trusted on account of his track record.
Sensible. All of it. I just think Sheary deserves more than what feels like a “Thanks for the cap space” farewell from the masses.
