TORONTO — Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford loves the Hockey Hall of Fame.
So much so, apparently, that after donating a Stanley Cup ring to a commemorative display on Wednesday afternoon, Rutherford broke script and offered his own guided tour.
Of the old goalie masks, of course.
“Let me show you,” Rutherford said, whisking a few reporters away from his scrum, past a confused security guard, to the left of one of Amanda Kessel’s jerseys and into a back room.
“Here, look at this one.”
What Rutherford was pointing to was one of his old masks, from when he was with the Detroit Red Wings, and it offered … well, not much of anything.
