BUFFALO, N.Y. — Things can change, of course.
Quickly.
One phone call, one conversation between general managers, and the Penguins could go from not having a choice in the first round of the NHL draft tonight at First Niagara Center to having a selection that would land an elite prospect.
General Manager Jim Rutherford said Thursday night that while he didn’t feel a trade was imminent then, “there are maybe some areas where we may want to clean some things up.”
Rutherford, it should be noted, has a history of being bold and aggressive when an appealing deal comes along.
