Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford made a rather bold statement Wednesday when he said that Daniel Sprong “will be a regular on our team next year.”
Such a move should placate a large portion of the fan base, who wanted to see Sprong get a shot with the NHL club after he scored a Penguins rookie-record 32 goals with their AHL club in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this past season.
It should also help the Penguins from a hockey perspective given Sprong’s ability to generate offense on a team that didn't do that enough in the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Capitals.
