How Patric Hornqvist became one of the NHL's most tenacious players

Patric Hornqvist, currently recovering from an unspecified injury, might not be a one-of-a-kind player, but there aren’t all that many like him, either.

Good thing, too.

Otherwise, the attrition rate among NHL players might be downright astronomical.

Hornqvist, after all, is about as pleasant on the ice as a honey badger who’s nursing a hangover. And a toothache.

If he was competing with his great grandmother for a loose puck around the crease, Great Grandma just might end up being fitted for a full-body cast.

His ferocious approach to his work, Hornqvist said, is “just my personality,” but it turns out that the way he was brought up had a lot to do with it, too.
