Eddie Olczyk, a former Penguin and and Sidney Crosby’s first NHL coach, has colon cancer.
The Blackhawks released a statement announcing his condition; Olczyk, besides his work as NBC Sports’ top NHL analyst, is a broadcaster for the team. He expects to return to work after completing treatment.
“Having the support and encouragement from my family, the Chicago Blackhawks organization, NBC Sports and all my friends and fans means the world to me and will give me continued strength to beat this,” Olczyk said.
Olczyk, 50, had 15 goals and 18 assists with the Penguins from 1996-98.
