Tom Kuhnhackl remembers the moment well.

On the last day of the Bundesliga soccer season in 2001, the title chase went down to the final day.

Bayern Munich needed just a tie against Hamburg to secure its 16th championship.

But it found itself down, 1-0, late in stoppage time. Three hundred and fifty kilometers away, Schalke 04, having just beaten Unterhaching to nudge ahead of Bayern, began celebrating its first championship in 43 years.

In the 94th minute, though, Bayern Munich drew a free kick. Patrik Andersson lined up, fired a low shot and buried it to level the score, end the game and secure the title for Bayern, setting off celebrations all around Munich.
