Despite his lack of size, veteran defenseman tries to do big things and win a job

David Warsofsky has come to accept the fact that he will never be the biggest player on the ice.

Listed at 5 feet 9, 170 pounds, Warsofsky doesn’t exactly fit the prototype of an NHL defenseman.

But what he lacks in size, Warsofsky makes up for in smarts and skill. As a heady, puck-moving defenseman, he has made strides toward carving out a role for himself in the Penguins’ organization in this training camp.

“I don’t think I’m going to out-muscle a lot of guys out there,” Warsofsky said Friday. “I’ve come to terms with that over the years, I’m not getting any taller.
