FORWARDS
Grade: C-
The Penguins got only six even-strength goals from their forwards over the course of the six-game series, and that’s one of the most obvious reasons their season is over. Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel, who tied for the team scoring lead with 21 points in these playoffs, combined for just one shot during regulation, a Crosby deflection late in the third period. Of the Penguins’ 22 shots on Capitals goalie Braden Holtby, only 12 came from their forwards. Throughout the playoffs, high-profile guys like Phil Kessel and Derick Brassard simply didn’t come close to contributing to the offense as much as necessary, and the Penguins rarely got any offensive production from their bottom-six guys.
