NEWARK, N.J. -- Sidney Crosby is expected to miss at least six weeks after having surgery to repair what the team described as a "core muscle injury" today.
The operation was performed by Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia.
Team officials were not immediately available for comment on the operation, but confirmed in a press release that he has been bothered by a sports hernia since training camp.
Crosby is the Penguins' leading scorer, with five goals and 12 assists in 17 games. He missed his first game of the season Tuesday, when the Penguins lost to the ork Rangers, 3-2, in overtime at Madison Square Garden.
