One of the most important pieces in franchise history is coming back to Pittsburgh to embark on his second stint with the Penguins. Former general manager Craig Patrick has been hired as a pro scout, Jim Rutherford announced on Monday evening. Patrick previously served as the team’s general manager between 1989-2006, winning back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 1991 and 1992.
Patrick’s legacy in Pittsburgh extends far past the two Stanley Cups of the early 90’s, with his fingerprints still visible on today’s Penguins team. As general manager, he was responsible for drafting Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang near the end of his tenure.
