COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Penguins were down by two goals, with less than two minutes left in regulation.
Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury had been replaced by an extra attacker, and the Penguins were pressing to somehow force the game into overtime.
They had no margin for error.
And then they made one.
A costly, completely avoidable one.
Seems someone couldn’t count how many guys were on the ice.
The Penguins were penalized for having one more than the legal limit and, even though a Jake Guentzel goal got them within 5-4 with less than a half-minute to play, they weren’t able to generate the one that would have stretched the game beyond the third period.
