It’s “doubtful” the Penguins will have two key defensemen in their lineup for Thursday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets at PPG Paints Arena.
Matt Hunwick and Justin Schultz both have concussions. Hunwick skated on his own before practice but didn’t take part in the team session.
Normally under coach Mike Sullivan, a player with a concussion will return in a non-contact capacity, the next day take contact and the day after that become a game-time decision — assuming the step-to-step recovery goes well.
That’s not set in stone, of course, but Hunwick hasn’t taken contact since Oct.
