The Penguins might not be shopping at Lacoste for a third-line center, but don’t expect them to wind up at Gabe’s, either.

General manager Jim Rutherford said on “Cook and Poni” on 93.7 FM Thursday that he expects to have $2 million to fill that spot, which he has said repeatedly that he expects to do via trade.

How did Rutherford get to that number, the first time he’s stating any such marking point publicly?

Fairly easily, actually.

And it looks like Rutherford is keeping money available for Matt Cullen, should he decide to return.
