WASHINGTON -- The Penguins put forward Andrew Agozzino on waivers at noon Sunday.
Agozzino was still in the lineup for the Penguins' noon game against the Capitals in Washington. If he clears at noon on Monday, the Penguins have the option to assign him to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, but they do not have to.
Sunday's noon deadline was the last time to put a player on waivers before Monday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
The main reason for putting Agozzino on the waiver wire is likely to just to retain his AHL eligibility. After the deadline, no player can be sent down to the AHL unless:
- The player was already in the AHL at the time of the deadline, then recalled after the deadline.
