Pitt guard Trey McGowens put on one of his better performances of the season against Colgate over the weekend, and on Monday, he was recognized for his efforts by the conference and named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career.
In Pitt’s 68-54 win over Colgate, McGowens contributed 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field as well as five rebounds, a team-high four steals and a block for the ages that rejected a lazy layup by Colgate guard Jack Ferguson halfway through the second half.
Although Xavier Johnson has been the Panthers’ undoubted leader this season, much is expected of McGowens, a former four-star recruit, and he has been playing at a high level consistently since roughly the halfway point of Pitt’s nonconference schedule.
