Pitt freshmen Trey McGowens and Xavier Johnson made their first appearances in the ACC tournament on Tuesday night, as they faced Boston College at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the duo made a splash, combining for 49 points and leading the Panthers to a surprisingly dominant 80-70 win over the Ky Bowman and the Eagles.
Johnson contributed 23 points, four rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block to the winning effort, and McGowens posted similar figures, chipping in a team-high 26 points, four rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block. Pitt head coach Jeff Capel praised the two freshmen for their outstanding contributions during his postgame press conference.
