Pittsburgh holds off Western Carolina 79-73

PITTSBURGH -- Jamel Artis scored a season-high 29 points and Pittsburgh used a late rally to survive an upset bid by Western Carolina with a 79-73 victory Wednesday.

The Catamounts took a seven-point lead with five minutes to play but the Panthers outscored them 25-12 down the stretch to take control of the game.

Artis shot 10 of 14 from the field and made 8 of 8 free throws. Sheldon Jeter and Michael Young each scored 12 points for Pitt (10-1) while James Robinson added 11.

Rhett Harrelson made 6 of 9 3-pointers to lead Western Carolina (4-8) with 21 points.
