The Pitt women’s basketball team got off to a slow start to the season with an exhibition loss to Division II IUP last week. But the Panthers officially opened the year on Friday with a 66-58 regular season win against Youngstown State on Friday.
The Panthers were led by junior Danielle Garven in scoring with 18 points but junior center Kalista Walters stole the show with 17 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks, and a steal, while shooting 8-11 from the field.
The season has the look of another challenging one for head coach Suzie McConnell-Serio, but it was nice to see the team rebound after that ugly exhibition loss.
