The No. 7 Pitt men’s soccer team faced Notre Dame at Alumni Soccer Stadium in South Bend on Saturday night, and although it was a hard-fought battle, the Panthers fell to the Fighting Irish 1-0 in double-overtime.
During the first half, it seemed things would shake out differently, as Pitt outshot Notre Dame 4-3 and seemed to be the more aggressive side in the early goings. However, none of those scoring chances paid off, and Notre Dame would clamp down in the second half, only allowing Pitt to get one shot off. Meanwhile, the Irish got off five shots, but with none of the teams’ combined 13 shots finding the back of the net in regulation, the game would have to be decided in overtime.
