Pitt forward Kene Chukwuka underwent hip surgery at a UPMC facility on Thursday, according to a statement from the university. During the 2018-19 season, the 6'9" native of Stockholm, Sweden, logged minutes in 32 of Pitt's 33 games. However, he sat out for the 73-59 ACC tournament loss to Syracuse on March 13 that ended the Panthers' season.
“Kene dealt with back and hip ailments throughout the season,” Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said of Chukwuka. “We are hopeful the surgery will correct the issues and enable him to return to full strength.”
Chukwuka saw his role with the team expand somewhat this season, as he started in 17 games and logged 18.
