Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi continued his tradition of selecting an honorary captain for the team's game against Rice on Saturday. This week, it was Joe Walton who was honored.
Walton had a storied career in football. He was a two-time All-American while playing football at Pitt, was the 14th overall pick in the 1957 NFL Draft, was the former head coach of the New York Jets, and also started the football program at Robert Morris.
In addition, Walton held a number of coaching jobs in the NFL. He was a position coach for the Washington Redskins and New York Giants and was also the offensive coordinator for the Redskins, the Jets, and also the hometown Pittsburgh Steelers.
