Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim was asked on Saturday about Virginia’s loss to UMBC in the NCAA tournament, and in addition to dismissing the opinion that it would be better to suffer a disappointing season than a historic embarrassment as one held by the “unemployed or idiots,” he took an unprovoked shot at Pitt and its fanbase.
Boeheim’s dig came as he sought to illustrate his point by bringing up former Pitt athletic director Scott Barnes’ decision to let Jamie Dixon leave the program. The 73-year-old coach then criticized the university’s handling of the Kevin Stallings firing.
Here is a lengthy Jim Boeheim quote on UVA and Tony Bennett, in which he casts some shade at Pittsburgh's handling of Jamie Dixon and Kevin Stallings.
