Three Pitt football players were named to the preseason watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy.
Making the cut were junior running back James Conner, senior offensive lineman Adam Bisnowaty, and senior linebacker Mike Caprara. The award is named after former Florida Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel and given annually to the top 'servant' in college football for their community relations work and academic/athletic excellence. The Panthers' three nominations was the most of any other team.
Pitt football players aren't unfamiliar to this type of territory in recognition away from the field. Last year, Conner was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and as I wrote yesterday, Caprara was named to the watch list for that honor this season.
