Pittsburgh Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi picked up the biggest recruit of his tenure with the program on Friday, landing four-star Hubbard (Ohio) High athlete and former Ohio State Buckeyes commit George Hill.
Hill chose Pitt over Michigan State, with Nebraska and Wisconsin trailing behind as well. Michigan State was considered the favorite after Hill decommitted from Ohio State in the fall, but Pitt pushed MSU out of the picture after Hill's official this past weekend.
“I think it’s a good fit for George because I think the atmosphere that Coach Narduzzi and his staff can provide for him not only as an athlete but as a student would be very beneficial to him,” Hubbard High HC Brian Hoffman said. “Coach Narduzzi is on the rise in terms of the coaching game. You see in one year they’ve had enough swing in the program and they’re starting to get top recruits at the University of Pittsburgh.”
The six-foot-five, 205-pound Hill is being tabbed as a defensive back for Pitt, but will also get a chance to make an impact at both running back and receiver. His versatility and pure athleticism is going to provide an instant spark on both sides of the ball.
“Obviously he has a gear while running other people do not,” Hoffman said. “He has the capability of making explosive plays for your offense. By the same token he has the skill set to line up and lock somebody down on the defensive side.”
Hill is listed as the #7 athlete and the #124 player overall in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports' Composite Rankings system.
