September 20, 2000 – Phoenix Suns Participate in the Largest Trade in NBA History – Only two years prior to the consummation of this trade, General Manager Jerry Colangelo believed that he may have acquired the best Center in Phoenix Suns history: Luc Longley. A three-time World Champion with the Chicago Bulls, Longley had the pedigree that the rebuilding Phoenix Suns were trying to add to a veteran team and could be written in as the starter for a position that the Suns had been desperate to fill with a successful body since the team’s inception.
However, over his brief two-year tenure with the Suns he had failed to live up to any of his lofty expectations, and his salary became a nuisance as Colangelo tried to develop the roster around the new “Backcourt 2000.
