Suns know changes are needed to compete in West

After a 39-43 season that ended on the outside of the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year, the Suns are surely headed for an offseason of roster changes.

It is the direction that is the bigger necessity.

The Suns are treading water in a Western Conference pool that returned seven teams from last year's playoff fleet and has new threats sailing like New Orleans, which overcame key injuries to beat out Oklahoma City for a playoff spot, and upstart Utah, which had the NBA's sixth-best record after the All-Star break.

The Suns' plan is to balance out their roster better, both in experience and position.
