Suns keep Cory Jefferson, waive Henry Sims

The Suns will take a 14-man roster to opening night Wednesday after deciding to keep power forward Cory Jefferson and waive center Henry Sims.

The Suns already had met the roster minimum with 13 players on guaranteed contracts but invited Jefferson and Sims to training camp on non-guaranteed deals with a chance to make the regular-season roster.

Jefferson, 24, is a 6-foot-9, 218-pound power forward who played 50 games last season as a rookie with Brooklyn, having his best game against the Suns with 12 points and 13 rebounds in 16 minutes. The former Baylor star, the last pick of the 2014 draft, is stronger than last season and has shown athleticism, improving shooting touch, weak-side shot-blocking and rebounding.
